Fossefall invites architects to shape the AI factories of the future
Fossefall has launched an architectural competition to find a partner that can develop the design of its future AI factories in Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The goal is to create a distinct architectural identity for Fossefall's facilities, making them more than generic industrial buildings and connecting AI, energy, nature and Nordic culture.
Data centers and AI factories do not have to be grey boxes in the landscape. We believe they can make a positive contribution to their surroundings while reflecting innovation, long-term thinking and responsibility.
Unlike traditional data center companies, Fossefall controls the entire value chain, from developing powered land to building and operating facilities and delivering AI services. This model supports profitable AI infrastructure development while creating local jobs, tax revenues and long-term investments.
Participants in the competition are challenged to explore how architecture can bring together technology, energy, infrastructure, landscape and Nordic identity in one concept. Fossefall is looking for solutions that combine strong design with technical feasibility, sustainability, operational efficiency and local value creation.
One hundred years ago, Norway built hydropower plants that still stand as symbols of innovation, industrial development and optimism. As we build the AI factories of the future, we believe we should aim just as high.
A large number of architecture firms have already expressed interest in the competition. The final design concept is expected to be selected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The winning proposal will define how a Fossefall AI factory should look, the values it should represent, and how it will be recognized for decades to come.
