Fossefall moves into Sweden, laying the foundation for large-scale sovereign AI infrastructure in Jokkmokk

Press release Oslo and Stockholm, May 8, 2026

Fossefall has taken a key step in its Nordic expansion by establishing a platform for the development of large-scale AI infrastructure in Jokkmokk, Sweden. The project is structured as a long-term AI infrastructure platform with a planned capacity of up to 200 MW. The initial development phase is expected to comprise approximately 45 MW. The project is designed for phased expansion in line with permitting processes, grid connection, and market demand, and is structured for long-term ownership and operation.

Fossefall develops and owns AI infrastructure that combines data centre facilities with GPU-based compute capacity, enabling secure, scalable AI operations for sovereign and business-critical use cases. Demand for reliable and controllable AI infrastructure in Europe is increasing rapidly, driven by regulatory requirements, the need for data control, and long-term access to high-performance compute capacity. Fossefall positions itself as a Nordic AI platform focused on ownership, governance, and long-term value creation, responding to Europe’s growing need for AI capacity that can be trusted, regulated, and retained within national and regional economies.

“Europe does not lack AI demand. It lacks ownership and control of AI infrastructure,” says Øyvind Vesterdal, CEO of Fossefall. “The Jokkmokk project provides a platform to build AI infrastructure in Sweden that creates lasting local value and strengthens national resilience. This is infrastructure Europe needs to own, govern, and depend on over the long term.”

The potential transaction may be subject to review under Sweden’s foreign direct investment screening framework, to the extent that the regulation is applicable.

The project area covers approximately 350,000 square metres and is located in electricity price area SE1, Sweden’s northernmost power zone. The region offers conditions suitable for large-scale industrial infrastructure, including access to grid capacity and room for expansion. In connection with a potential establishment, Fossefall is also evaluating investments in energy storage solutions to support grid stability and operational resilience. The facility is planned to be developed in line with Tier III standards. Fossefall is also assessing opportunities for heat recovery and delivery to local district heating networks in cooperation with local stakeholders.

Fossefall is a Nordic-owned company with a shareholder base across Norway and Sweden. The company has an established presence in the region, including an office in Stockholm, and is building AI infrastructure with a clear focus on long-term ownership, industrial execution, and value creation at the local, national, and European level.
